Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful details for a smooth, social day of Mah Jongg.

I’m a beginner… will there be lessons?
Yes. We’ll pair newer players with others, and we can also start a beginners table. In the meantime, try the getting-started resources linked below.
How do I pay? Do I have to donate to participate?
Pay at the door—cash or check to Silver Cliff Ranch. A donation is encouraged but not required.
What time will the games begin?
Groups will self-organize. Expect 20–30 minutes of social time, a short welcome, then everyone finds a table and starts playing.
Can I bring my friend or significant other?
Yes! They can play, watch, soak in the hot springs, fish, or shoot hoops. Have them RSVP at chaffeemahjong@gmail.com.
Can I carpool with someone?
Email chaffeemahjong@gmail.com and we’ll try to help coordinate. Carpooling is recommended.
Can I observe?
Absolutely—watching is a great way to learn.
I don’t have a 2025 Mah Jongg card—can I borrow one?
We’ll have a few extra cards to borrow. If none are available, pairing with someone will still let you learn and play.
Will we play for money?
This is a social event, not competitive. If your table knows the rules and wants to play for quarters, go for it.
Will there be food/drink? Can I bring some?
We’ll provide light snacks and non‑alcoholic drinks. Feel free to bring something to share. No alcoholic beverages, please.
Who is Silver Cliff Ranch and why are they hosting?
Silver Cliff Ranch is a faith‑based nonprofit serving youth and families in the Arkansas Valley. They aim to be a welcoming space for local partners and programs.
Is there a changing room for the hot springs?
Yes—bring your suit and towel.
Is this just for women?
No. All Mah Jongg enthusiasts are welcome.
